Currently I am working part time for Otago Polytechnic’s CAPABLENZ team as a facilitator for people who have significant skills, knowledge and experiences in their management roles, and are wanting to be recognised for the many years they have had working and developing as key managers and leaders.
These people come from a range of working backgrounds and have held roles such as General Manager, Chief Executive, HR Manager, Training and Development Manager, Financial Operating Officer, etc, or have owned and managed their own businesses.
My role involves listening and understanding their working careers and assisting them to package their knowledge, skills and experiences into case studies so that they can be assessed against the graduate profile of a particular qualification, in this case usually a Bachelor of Applied Management. Others who haven’t as many years of knowledge and experience can be assessed against a Diploma or gain a partial recognition towards the degree.
I also can assist people gaining qualifications in other areas. My background is in teaching and learning, career development and management.
As a qualified career development practitioner, teacher, lecturer and manager I find this work deeply rewarding.
Enabling people to understand, articulate and reflect on their varied working lives is a role that I enjoy immensely. To assist in helping them think about their work and what has informed their practice can often be transformational for the candidate.
Often this is a process that capitulates people into thinking about the rest of their working lives and where they want to be, or motivating them into trying something different, or continuing on to undertake more study and learning.
I feel honoured to be a part of my candidates journeys of self reflection and then articulation of their work. As a career development practitioner I am also curious as to how well the candidate knows and understands themselves, their abilities, their values and beliefs about themselves and their work.
Anyone interested in thinking about gaining recognition for their prior learning is more than welcome to contact me.
