Fees, scholarships and support

If you’re thinking of a career change, you’ll no doubt be thinking finances. Fully qualified technology teachers have a starting salary of anywhere between $45,000 and $60,000, so for many, getting the right qualifications is a very worthwhile investment.

Fees

Fees are comprised of several components; the following amounts are indicative only, subject to change, and may vary from case to case depending on how much of your prior knowledge is assessed as counting towards the qualification. Please contact us for further information.

Capable NZ - Assessment of Prior Learning and extra learning required to reach the entry level for year 3 of the degree: $5000 approx (inc GST)

Fees for the degree programmes are set near the end of each year. For 2010, the prices were as follows:

  • Year 3 of the Bachelor of Design (Product): TBA
  • Year 3 of the Bachelor of Design (Fashion): TBA
  • Year 3 of the Bachelor of Culinary Arts: TBA
  • Graduate Diploma in Teaching: TBA

Loans and allowances

The Capable Teachers pathway is recognised by NZQA and students are eligible for loans and allowances for the majority of their study, as per government criteria.

For Capable NZ, students are eligible for loans and allowances during the "balance of learning" phase of the process (to bring you up to the level required for entry to the third year of the degree). However, students are not eligible during the initial assessment and facilitation phase, where their level of existing knowledge is assessed against academic standards.

Students are eligible for loans and allowances during their final year of degree study, and for the Graduate Diploma in Teaching.

Scholarships and support

Teach NZ scholarships

Each year the government determines priority curriculum areas for recruitment of secondary school teachers. Scholarships are made available to support career changes and graduates to enter teaching.
