This qualification recognises advanced business skills, knowledge and competence in business operations, strategic planning, visionary leadership, by scanning the marketplace and looking to develop new opportunities into your business.

People who achieve this qualification will be adept in the strategic management, decision making of the organisation and may well be involved in determining where the organisation is heading long term and able to identify how these goals will be translated into daily running of the business.

Operational managers (team leaders, supervisors, first line management) should apply to be assessed against the learning outcomes of the National Diploma in Business (Level 5).

Senior management, small business owners or those involved in making strategic decisions on behalf of a business should apply to be assessed against the learning outcomes of the Bachelor of Applied Management.

National Diploma in Business (Level 5)

This qualification recognises the broad base of technical and operational business competence required for those people in business related roles, in middle management and supervisory positions.

Individuals who achieve this qualification have the skills, knowledge and competence to undertake a broad range of business activities, and carry out specialised operations involving self directed work, and the supervision of processes or people. The elective nature of the qualification allows the selection of unit standards for the knowledge and skills most appropriate for the position held.

National Diploma in Business Administration (Level 5)

This qualification is suitable for individuals who have a complex administration role within an organisation, business, not-for-profit or service-sector.The National Diploma is designed to:

  • Recognise the competence, knowledge and skills required for people to plan and coordinate business administrative functions and operations, and provide business administration services in a wide range of business and organisational contexts
  • Cater for diverse positions ranging from sole-charge situations to working within administration and management teams

How will my skills and understanding be evaluated?

The CAPABLE NZ facilitator will work with you, either individually or in a group, to help you prepare for assessment. Preparation time will vary for each person, but normally takes approximately six day workshops. You will then make an oral presentation in an assessment meeting to a Capable NZ business assessor with strong industry experience.The presentation will require you to discuss your understanding related to your work practice.
